At the urging of Ambassador Delenn, the Alliance of Light was formed in order to fight the darkness, whatever the cost. As the months passed, the importance of the Alliance grew and grew, until finally Babylon 5 broke away from the Earth Alliance and became its own independent state. Since then, the Shadows have went on the move, openly attacking former members of the League of Non-Aligned worlds. The Alliance fought back, thwarting a major attack on refugees in Sector 83. The engagement did not come without cost though, as the Alliance lost 2 ships for every one Shadow ship they could destroy.
Now that the war has paused, League members are reluctant to continue to support the Alliance. They believe that they need to reinforce their homeworlds, so any further offensive action by the Alliance looks very unlikely. Also, the apparent death of Sheridan has seemed to have weakened the bonds between races, further plunging the Alliance into disorder.
